When they need it: This is not a simple answer.A1c is a measurement of long term (like a month at a time) elevated blood sugar.Insulin is a short term molecule that acts to transfer blood sugar into cells, which drops the level.Used inappropriately.it can drop the blood sugar to dangerously low levels.(seizures/death possible). The use, timing and amount varies,so proper evaluation & treatment by a doctor.
