Yes: We are all thought to inherit around 4 recessive (not expressed) genes from our parents.These genes can trigger metabolic problems like PKU or inherited gene syndromes if their come together with a 2nd recessive gene.The closer the mating (brother,cousin, 2nd cousin),the more likely we will have a shared recessive gene and have a 25% chance of having a kid with a defect.
