Picture please: It is difficult to comment without seeing pictures. From what you are describing it sounds like seborrhoeic keratosis. You need to get a proper skin examination by your doctor to identify the cause.

Need more info: The fact that thy have been there a long time is somewhat reassuring, but I cannot have a further opinion without more info--such as your age, and picture. A virtual consult would be appropriate.
