Obstructive jaundice: Itching happens in the obstructive jaundice . The other type called hemolytic jaundice ,happening from excess breakdown of red blood cells don't cause itching. When the level of bilirubin exceeds 2-3 mg , you can start seeing the jaundice .The jaundice you see in the sclera is not related to itching ,but on how much bilirubin- the jaundice pigment is in the blood .
