Rest with the flu: Flu also known as “influenza” is cause by a virus. Flu symptoms can last from 2 to 14 days. Rest, fluids, and using pain and fever medication may help patients feel better over time. Antibiotics are not used to treat viruses. Remember it is important to cover your mouth while coughing or sneezing to avoid spreading the virus.

Treat symptoms: 'Symptomatic treatment' is the term Dr's use for how to manage flu-like illnesses. Unfortunately there is little you can do to speed up your recovery, other than drinking fluids and resting. Taking paracetamol +/- ibuprofen can lessen pain from headaches/sore throat/muscle ache as well as lower fever which makes you feel better while you recover naturally. See a Dr if you feel short of breath

Flu: I would start with rest fluids and treat your symptoms. If you have a fever take paracetamol and cooling measures. If you have muscle aches take ibuprofen. If you have a runny nose take a decongestant and consider an anti-histamine. Take an anti-nausea medication if you feel sick. High dose vitamin C and garlic are thought to have some immune boosting properties.

Rest and hydration: The body is very good at healing itself if you allow it the time to do so. It's important to get enough sleep, drink plenty of water, rest and avoid strenuous activity until you have shaken off the illness. Analgesia like paracetamol and ibuprofen may be helpful. Don't waste money on pharmacy products like cough drops etc which have no proven efficacy. If you're getting worse, see your doctor.

Very little: Prolonged bed rest may cause prolonged symptoms. Garlic and Vit C will not hurt you but will have no benefit. There are no magic "immune boosters" available to you. Notice that the symptoms are entirely due to interferons and other immunity, so "boosting" immunity will INTENSIFY symptoms. Drinking large volumes of fluids will produce large volumes of urine, nothing else.
