A member asked:

How many x rays needed for each breast in a digital mammogram?i had 3 x-rays in the left breast and 2 in the right breast because 1xray was not clear.

This is about right: Typically a mammogram will include 3 views in order to get side views, top to bottom views and a front view of the whole breast in order to look for any abnormalities in different parts of your breast.

A standard: full-field digital mammogram in the US is generally 2 views for each breast. Occasionally additional views will be performed in the screening setting. For example, if a patient has very large breasts, additional views may be needed for full coverage. More commonly, if one of the initial views is not technically optimal due to positioning or other factors, a repeat or additional view is done.
