Depends: Sedation is a common side effect of mirtazapine. It may have helped you with insomnia while you were taking it, but the effect won't last once you stop it. If you continue to have trouble sleeping, see your doctor. There are a number of helpful options for insomnia, including good sleep hygiene, CBT or short-term medications.

Different strokes: There are no hard and fast formulas for this: genetics, time on the medication, other medications you are on, why you were on the med, how gradual the taper, nature of underlying sleep disorder, and whether you develop serotonin discontinuation like symptoms. If the side effects not too prohibitive, one could return to it. An alternate sleep med, sleep hygiene, mediate, exercise, herbal/oils?
