A member asked:

I have a- blood. had a miscarriage. got rhogam shot bc didn't know hubby's blood type. found out later he is also a-. is rhogam harmful if not needed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rhogam is harmless: Rhogam is anti-rh+ antibodies meant to 'neutralize' any rh+ red cells that may leak from a rh+ baby into an rh- mom, so that rh- mom doesn't "see" them and try to make antibodies against a rh+ baby. Since there is no risk of having an rh+ baby in your case...The Rhogam is 'useless', but it won't do anything harmful to you or a future pregnancy...It eventually disappears from your system.
