A member asked:

How often do psychiatrists send people for lab work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. Andrew Kaplan answered

Specializes in Psychiatry

Depends: There are generally two reasons: clarification that a medical condition is not masquerading as psychiatric (thyroid, drug use, pregnancy etc.) and as related to the psychotropic medication prescribed (e.g. Abilify can cause high cholesterol, among other problems, so we check cholesterol before and during the time a patient is on this medication).
