See below: Generally it was recommended to test liver function & lipid profile (total chol, ldl, hdl) before starting med; liver function every 3 months x 2 or 3. If liver tests ok, can stretch them out to twice a year; lipid check twice a year unless dose change of med. Lab work also if side effects reported after starting chol med.

Depends. : If you're referring to statins, classes of drugs commonly used for the treatment of high cholesterol, then i will typically repeat cholesterol levels after 2 to 3 months on those drugs. If someone is doing well on this medication with no side effects then i will subsequently follow their cholesterol levels annually. If there is a change in status (new symptoms, weight change) then sooner.
