Do not douche!: Despite all the ads and what you might have heard from friends or family, vaginal douching ("vaginal wash") is unhealthy. It often destroys normal vaginal bacteria, increasing the risk of infections, sometimes serious. And douching is unnecessary for vaginal hygiene. Just wash your genital area (outside) with soap and water when you shower or bathe. Leave the inside alone!
