A member asked:

Knee arthritis & do not need a replacement but my doctor has suggested platelet-rich plasma injections for pain and reduce need for surgery. opinions?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Helpful: Although PRP injections will not "cure" arthritis, they are a very good and safe option for knee OA. Numerous studies have demonstrated their benefit in terms of reducing pain, improving function, and slowing the progression of OA. The debate lies in how many injections to give an how often. Their benefit does come gradually, but they often can provide benefit for at least 9-18 months.
