ANS: It is best to discuss this with your Dr and the ultrasound tech as the terms mean different things to different people. Tumors can be hypo echoic because they are not normal.

It is not true.: Air completely reflects the US beam so it has no internal echogenicity. Depending on other characteristics, a hypoechoic structure could be a solid mass or fluid filled. Most solid tumors are hypoechoic relative to adjacent tissue.
