Cold does it!: Ear pain can occur with cold due to fluid behind the ear drum , it could also be caused by secondary bacterial infection. If the pain is sharp and severe or persistent seek medical care.

Eustachian tube: Your eustachian tube helps regulate pressure in your middle ear. When you get a cold it may swell and pressure can build up in your middle ear, causing pain. Viral infections can also increase risk for ear infections so if your pain is intense, lasts days, or you have a fever or drainage with the pain, see your doctor.
