My mom gets these painfull swellings around her ears whenever she eats anything cold.what could be the problem?

Parotid gland: The swellings are most likely swelling of the parotid glands, as that is the only gland-like structure in front of the ear that could be related to eating. I do not think this is any thing serious, but would certainly recommend a head and neck surgeon for diagnosis and possible treatment.
