Extremely rare : Its usually reported at a rate of one in a million, usually involving an elderly person who has arteriosclerosis receiving a high thrust neck adjustment. Chance of a serious complication by taking an Aspirin or other over-the-counter pain medications is higher than a stroke from an adjustment. As your regular doctor to refer you to one he feels comfortable with. Feel better.

Possible: While the incidence of cervical artery trauma precipitated by chiropractic neck manipulation is unknown, it is a rare but important risk. In fact any high-velocity, low amplitude maneuvers of the neck may cause stroke. Stroke can happen with dissection of an artery or displacement of a plaque in the artery. Your symptoms don't necessarily mean stroke. Please consult with your doctor.

Stroke from manip.: Manipulation of the neck has been known to cause a dissection, or injury to the blood vessels that run through the spine to the brain, known as a vertebral dissection. Manipulation can also disrupt atherosclerosis, or plaques in blood vessels (think rust in the pipes) causing stroke. Manipulation can change a degenerative disk into a full rupture leading to nerve injury.
