Possible: The causative orgamism - Candida Albicans, resides in everyones mouth as normal flora. If for some reasan, the microbiota gets out of whack, thrush may result. Sometimes it follows a course of antibiotics when the antibiotics kill off the other microorganisms.

Probably not thrush: Thrush is often misdiagnosed - and sometimes a 'coated tongue' is mistaken for that. True thrush looks a bit like cottage cheese -a doctor can help you decide if that's really what it is. I believe it's most likely you have a coated tongue-if you send a pic that would help. Try rinsing vigorously with warm water, or even brushing your tongue. There are other reasons for thrush to appear -i.e. meds
