Premedicate: When a wound change is performed, certainly it can hurt. The best thing to do, would be to take Tylenol (acetaminophen) 45 minutes before the wound change, or Motrin (ibuprofen) 30 minutes before. If you have other pain meds, you would want to take them BEFORE the wound change -the medicine needs to absorb into your system first. Sometimes some ice first or the 'cold spray' would help immediately.
