New born bilirubin: Typically, newborns can spike bilirubin to above 5 if the liver isn't quite mature enough to handle the load, but physiologic jaundice is very common. Usually, if the infant is healthy and active, with no signs (lethargy, fever, poor feeding, etc) of infection, the levels stabilize by two weeks.
