Not unusual for HSV: Recurrence of HSV1 is usually at the same or adjacent site. It can spread to the adjacent spot via peripheral nerves or by direct spread from adjacent cells of the skin. While it is possible for subsequent outbreaks to extend further in all likelihood they won't.
