A member asked:

What does a sphere number of +0.50 and cylinder number of -0.25 mean (axis 179 degrees) (left eye is +0.25, -0.25, 14 degrees respectively)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Eyeglass powers: These are small numbers and probably means the vision of this person is good without glasses. The first number (sphere) is whether a magnifying or minifying lens is needed. The cylinder is the amount of ovalness and the axis is the orientation of the oval (vertical is 90 degrees and horizontal 180 degrees and other numbers are in between).
