Microbic is an: excellent choice of antibiotic for uncomplicated bladder infections but it's unlikely to be effective against BV. If you have a bladder infection, you should take the Microbid. Contact your doctor if 1) your symptoms persist after finishing Rx, 2) you have typical symptoms of BV (odorous, somewhat watery discharge) or 3) a urine culture shows no bladder infection. Dr. Anne

BV treatment: Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid) is fine for most UTIs, but has no effect on bacterial vaginosis. The usual treatment is metronidazole, which requires a prescription. Don't rely on self diagnosis: best to see your doctor to confirm the diagnosis, or at least speak with her by phone.
