Esophagitis: Most likely you are describing an infection of the esophagus, or acid reflux. Cheap solution: try an antacids 2 hours after meals, or OTC H2blockers or PPI's If that doesn't work, you may need an anti-fungal; or an EGD. If over 50, consider a cardiac work-up.
