A member asked:

What happens when beta blocker reaches half life? does your heart rate start to gradually increase or does it stay lowered for longer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Half Life" is the: number of hours it takes for half of a drug to be eliminated from your body. Different B-blockers have different half-lives. If you don't take the next dose on time, the heart rate & blood pressure will gradually go back to pre-treatment values. In fact, sometimes the heart rate & B/P will go even higher than that. This is called a "rebound effect." Hope this answers your question. Dr. Anne.
