If your gyn: Thought it was bowel, it is probably small intestine or colon. In this area, sigmoid colon can cause pain by spasm or diverticulitis. If it is small intestine, it could be trapped in a hernia. Doesn't sound very serious if your gynecologist did not find anything that is concerning.
