Just wait, but...: Glandular fever, also called infectious mononucleosis, is caused by Epstein Barr virus (EBV). No virus responds to any antibiotic; you'll just have to wait for it to clear up on its own, usually over 1-3 weeks. Sometimes there is a secondary strep throat infection that needs an antibiotic, and severe symptoms sometimes are improved with a steroid like prednisone. Follow your doctor's advice.

Get a swab taken : Glandular fever is caused by a virus (EBV) and therefore antibiotics do not alter the cause of the infection. However you can get a secondary bacterial infection when your immune system is lowered and therefore it is wise to see your GP so that a swab can be taken and sent to the lab (especially if your symptoms are worsening rather than improving)
