Hand infection: there different potentials to what you describe, infection seem to be on top the list, infection can be in the skin or just under the skin, but also can be deep in involve the joints or in the track inside which the tendons move easily . other causes can be inflammation as in gout or similar conditions, or retained foreign body. In either case you will need to seek medical attention

Just a thought: but this may be a "GANGLION CYST"...a small out-pocketing of the tendon at the joint OR an outpocketing of the joint itself "SYNOVIAL CYST" Just a thought Hope it's helpful Dr Z
