What's in the ear?: The doctor will want to know what is in the ear. He has to look in the ear. Otherwise, he has to guess what's in the ear... unless another doctor just cleared out the canals. If so, it is presumed that nothing is in the ear canal. In a normal person, without a hole or a tube in the eardrum, ear drops will not go beyond the ear canal, so most drops will not directly affect the eustachian tube.
