Receding hair line: There are over the counter treatments for a receding hairline, like Minoxidil that are helpful. Since the hair loss is in a 17 year old, i would recommend a visit to a dermatologist to make sure there are no other reasons for the hair loss.

Preventing hairloss: If you are 17 and already experiencing male pattern hairloss, it is best to consider using Propecia (finasteride) and minoxidil. Be sure to discuss your health conditions and potential risks or side effects of these medicines with your primary care doctor or dermatologist.
