Typical?: There is no real "typical" charge. It depends upon the geographic area, type of practice, expertise and experience of the dentist and even a custom nightguard can vary in design and cost. I suggest you discuss your concern with your Orthodontist. You can also get a second opinion from another equally qualified dentist. It does seem at the very high end of the range for this service.

Depends: You aren't just buying an appliance. The orthodontist will adjust the nightguard of to provide the therapy you need. This process can take several months. The fee reflects all his/her expertise and skill as well as the fee from the lab that makes the appliance itself.
