Is there a difference between a night guard made by a dentist and one you buy in a store?

Comfort and fit: The over the counter products can be convenient and less expensive but oftentimes do not fit quite as well. A product made in the office may cost a bit more, but the fit will be custom, feel better, is adjustable, and better tolerated. With that in mind, it is likely worn more by the patient.

Of course!: A store bought device is typically a "boil and bite" device and "soft" in nature. Most professionally made night guards are custom made, and often "hard" in nature. This type helps to stop the "trigger mechanism" of grinding and clenching over time and can make the grinding somewhat less intense over time in many patients. Talk with your dentist with what is best for you.

A night guard...: Made by your dentist will be custom fit to your mouth along with using higher quality materials that will feel much more comfortable while wearing.

Yes: One is a custom appliance designed for your problem alone. The other is a one size fits all, and unfortunately may do more harm than good.
