Niacor allergy: Niacor (niacine) is a Cholesterol medication & vitamin. An allergy occurs when your body’s immune system creates antibodies to a foreign substance causing a reaction that can be mild to severe. Non existant: There is never any allergy to this, but large doses of niacin cause flushing of skin which can be annoying. Because it lowers triglycerides and raises HDL lipids it was used for many years in hope of reducing cardiovascular events. Unfortunately it failed to reduce heart attacks or strokes so it was abandoned as useless about 10 years ago. Statins are very effective and better tolerated.
