A member asked:

I was diagnosed with a mild calcification of the aortic arch. do i need surgery and what is my life expectancy? female, 72 yo

Calcification: Calcification signifies that you have arteriosclerosis but mild calcification of the aortic arch is not hemodynamically not significant and no surgery is needed unlike having an aneurysm. You do have to be mindful of your blood pressure, serum cholesterol and other lipid levels, abstinence from smoking, etc and having regular checkups by your physician as well as reporting any suspicious symptoms.
