Shoulder sprain: Wherever two bones meet is a joint. Joints move in certain directions and use ligaments from one bone to the other to prevent movement in other directions. ie ligaments on the sides of the knee keep it from bending sideways. When ligaments tear partially its called a sprain, completely its called a separation. The acromioclavicular (AC) joint is where the collarbone meets the scapula or shoulder.
