Fluid retention: Heat causes fluid retention. Certain hormones in the premenstrual days also cause fluid retention. However if you have normal heart and kidney function you should be able to drink plain water in sufficient quantities to avoid dehydration. Nature usually guides you with the thirst mechanism so that you won't drink excessive amounts of water. Drink the water at a graduated rate and avoid sodium.
