A good start: Nasonex (mometasone) ia good start if one suspects environmental allergy causing symptoms described for duration of greater than 2 weeks. However, it will take days to weeks of daily use to reach maximum efficacy. Would add twice daily saline irrigation and oral antihistamine such as cetirizine (Zyrtec otc). Can even add decongestant to the antihistamine for faster short-term relief. See allergist for work up

See below: If your cough is a post-viral cough, almost nothing helps. Nasonex can take weeks to really start working well. Astelin nasal spray works pretty well. Chlorphenirimine works as good as anything if the cough is coming from post nasal drip. Lastly, you might try to find Chestal with honey - I've found it at Whole Foods and Walgreens. It works as good as anything I've tried that's over the counter
