Fluid ?: Middle ear infections are only possible if middle ear fluid is trapped in the space & feed the germs that enter from the throat. The fluid may persist for several weeks after all germs are dead. Antihistamines can thicken fluid & retard the time needed for the fluid to leave. If you are having fluid in the outer ear canal it is abnormal & should be checked.
