Not likely: The appendix is located in the right LOWER abdomen so appendicitis is unlikely. The gall bladder is located in the right upper abdomen and gall stones can cause pain there (along with other things). Saw he had a HIDA scan;this would can show gallstones and other gallbladder problems.

Nonspecific: Hi, and sorry to hear your husband's not feeling well! Right upper abdominal pain can be caused by many different things (in the ER, this is often due to liver and gallbladder problems or kidney stones), and although appendicitis USUALLY causes lower pain, or pain around the belly button, there are exceptions. A primary care doctor (on HealthTap or in clinic) or an ER can evaluate this.
