A member asked:

Is it possible for a macro prolactinoma to completely shrink away due to cabergoline, or do they always require surgury in the end? thanks

Prolactinoma: It is possible to suppress the growth of prolactin secreting pituitary adenoma with cabergoline. Some patients do not require surgical removal of the tumor for as long as there is no size progression in serial mri. Reduction in size and adequate hormone response would favor conservative therapy only. Check with your endocrinologist and neurosurgery in this aspect of your care.

It can: Prolactinoma should be treated with medication first, not surgery. Frequently it can be controlled on the medication and never requires surgery. Keep close contact with your physician and do the followup as suggested.
