A member asked:

Can metrogel (0.75%) and clotrimazole (together) cure perioral dermatitis? mild case, cleared up in 4 weeks, but keeps coming back (whilst on creams)

Perioral acne: stop using the antifungal/steroid combination unless you have seborrheac dermatitis it may cause the perioral acne to recur. Just use the metrogel alone and see if it clears up. Some cases need oral antibiotics. followup with your dr if it doesnt clear up.

Sometimes you can: only control, but not cure, perioral dermatitis. The cause(s) need to be addressed. In your case Irritation from shaving, shaving creams or aftershave products may be contributing to it. Use hypoallergenic products & a fresh razor blade or switch to an electric razor. Use mild, unscented soap to wash your face. Steroid creams can help but should be used sparingly & briefly. Best wishes. Dr. Anne
