Cough and phlegm: That medicine is actually ciprofloxacin, and while it should work well for a UTI, it may NOT work for bronchitis. This is because there are different germs involved. Sometimes the germs that cause bronchitis are viruses - and so 'nothing' really works against them. If you get a culture of your phlegm, that will help tell the doctor what's the best medication to try. Azithromycin might be an option
