A member asked:

Can hep c cause a low white blood cell count?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

How low?: In a round about way, yes. Hepatitis C is a common cause of cirrhosis. Scarring of the liver causes splenic enlargement, and an enlarged spleen, from any cause, can cause reduction in white blood cells. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.
