A member asked:

I've been diagnosed with essential thrombocythemia and was wondering if it is safe to have a baby?i also get gestational diabetes, what are the risks?

It depends: This is a chronic condition, so I need full/complete history. Are you taking any medication for it? Many such cases are part of CML....so I need to see your CBC results and Chromosomal studies for the Philadelphia Chromosome(BCR/ABL Mutation test). If you are not taking any chemotherapy or targeted therapy like Imatinib, you can have a baby. But I need to see your platelet counts and CBC results.
