A member asked:

My son is 7 he has down syndrom and today i was told his white blood cell count was low he is not and has not been recently sick what could cause this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Down's and WBCs: There are many causes for low white blood cells. Most of the time it is a transient condition and not cause for concern. However, there does seem to be a link between Down's Syndrome and problems with bone marrow cell production. It would be wise to have this count followed closely.
