There are probably: shades of grey on this question...."it depends." A first degree burn involves only the outer layer of the skin and may cause redness, swelling and pain; the skin is not interupted/broken. If the skin is not broken, I think you could swim in a well-maintained/probably chlorinated swimming pool; I wouldn't swim in a lake/ocean. If the skin is broken, stay out of the water to avoid infection.
