Common: Any injection into the muscle can trigger swelling and redness that can last a few days. It's the same thing that happens when you get a mosquito bite,just on a bigger scale. It does not mean something bad is going on.

Probably sterile abs: cess. The second most common side effect after an intramuscular shot. Usually I rub the area where I administer the immunization pretty vigorously right after so the fluid inside the muscle gets spread out into a "pancake". You can put a cool towel over the site and give Ibuprofen. And the next time due for a shot remind the doc or nurse and either you or he/she can rub site right after.
