A member asked:

Worried, would blood from higher up in the gi tract show up as just little bits of black when i wipe? stool its self is normal in shape and color

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: Blood from the stomach and upper intestinal tract does produce black stool. Other causes of black stool include taking iron supplements and taking peptobismol. It's a simple test done in your physician's office to test a stool sample to see whether the black substance is from gi bleeding.
