For educational purpose only, but exactly does nitro do for a heart patient ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dilates arteries: nitroglycerin is a vasoactive agent that causes the arteries of the heart to widen, this increases blood flow to and throughout the heart. This results in decreased pain, if a patient is having chest pain from narrowing of the arteries from cardiovascular risk factors. it also is a hypertensive agent as it decreases the blood pressure which may help decrease cardiac demand and chest pain.
