I&D: Abscesses generally will not heal by just taking antibiotics. Your abscess needs to be drained. Any emergency department can do an incision and drainage (I&D) of your abscess. Packing is usually placed to keep the incision open so the healing process can take place from inside to outside. Do not try to drain it yourself as this can cause a very bad infection.
