A member asked:

What is the preffered first line of treatment for a toe with arthritis, limited mobility, and no cartilage in the joint: a cheilectomy or a mtp fusio?

Great toe: Treatment depends upon amount of damage to the articular surface .. Fusion of mtp is a bigger surgery , and is necessary if the joint Has a lot of wear . It is very effective towards resolving the pain you have . A cheilectomy which removes bone spurs is unlikely to help in the face of significant joint wear
